Strategic implementation of strategic plans.

You will notice that I used “strategic” twice. We usually hear about implementation of strategic plans. I have been involved in creating strategy and I have also overseen its implementation. I have found that when strategy is handed over for implementation, it can easily break down or fail.

I work with the organization to ensure that the strategic plan is carried out and translated into the day-to-day operations, ensuring systems and processes support goals, and make the best use of staff time.

Operational planning for new construction

My specialty is connecting the dots between and organization’s mission and goals, the building project, and daily operations. The sooner those dots get connected, the smoother the opening goes and the smoother the first days, months and years in the new building will flow. Human nature focuses people on the day of the opening; my specialty is to make sure the opening is just the first in a string of successes.

Program Requirements

By working with organizations in pre-design to determine program requirements, I can ensure that the building will work for the organization the day people move in, as well as support growth. I’ve done similar work for smaller organizations, and find the essential needs are the same. Staff is often so involved in the here and now that it is difficult to anticipate future needs. Because many decisions are literally set in stone, its important to get them right, right from the start.

On-going Operations

I help you to figure out how you will live daily within a new building. How you go about “business as usual” may need to change. Setting up new work flow, establishing new policies and procedures to reflect the building layout, improving systems, defining staffing and roles and responsibilities are just some of the elements to consider when relocating.

Transition Planning

Before you can move into your new location there are a million and one tasks that need to be done. I work with staff and management to identify those tasks to prepare them for the new location. I can also assist with managing the physical relocation, from identifying movers to move in day celebrations.
